Double Arches of Promise

A few days ago I wrote about some promises that God had made to Cal and me...

Since then, He has confirmed those promises through scripture verses, "coincidental" occurrences that just-so-happen to blatantly point to the promises God made to us, and a deep knowledge that His plan will ultimately come into fruition.  With such an obvious movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives, the evil one can't help but take notice and he is, as always, attempting to chop down our tree of hope and inspiration.  I wish I could share with you what these two promises are, but as of yet, it is still too early.

Romans 15:13
 "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

With the devil taking his best shots these past few days, it's all we can do just to remain in a somewhat upward position and hang onto our hope of ever seeing God's promises come into full bloom.  Today though, God was the conqueror.

As of late, attacks have seemed to come through finances.  Calvin continues to be given less and less hours at work in an attempt for the management to cut costs.  Today brought a phone call that announced another time-cut to Calvin's work-week.  With the news, our hearts weighed heavily.  We lifted our weak and torn hearts to the throne of Jesus and guess what!  When we were out running errands this afternoon, talking about all of the curve balls and rough patches in this journey to trust God to fulfill His promises, a rainbow appeared.  But not just one, but two rainbows! 

I mention this because, I would say it's normal to see one rainbow, but today we saw two!  And no, it wasn't the front portion divided from the end by clouds, no!  There were two separate rainbows.  As I gazed at the vibrant colors radiating in the sky , I reflected on what they represented; the promise from God to Noah that He would never again flood the entire earth.  The promise!  Just then, my mind began to reel.  Just before I had noticed the colorful beams of light, I had been talking with Calvin and God about His two promises to us and how frustrating it was to encounter so many bumps in the road...  And how many rainbows appeared?  Not one, but twoTwo rainbows, to emphasize God's never-ending commitment to fulfill both promises!

As we drove and finished our errands, I tried to keep my eye on the rainbows.  Finally, when we came to a stop, guess where the rainbow appeared to be originating?  My church.  As I took in the sight, I was overwhelmed by the symbolism.  It was as if God was saying, "Hey Jen, did you notice that double rainbow I sent you just to confirm that I did make those promises to you and I will keep them?? ... Trust Me!"

And if the double arches weren't enough to convince me, He had them bursting from the top of our church!  There's nothing quite like seeing a rainbow (a representation of God's promise) shooting out from God's "house"!  It was almost like He was telling me, "Just in case you missed the first sign, here's another one.  It's coming out of my house...maybe you'll notice that!"

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not onto your own understanding.  In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path."

I have no idea how God is going to accomplish all that He has laid on our hearts.  Believe me, it is more than impossible for either promise to come to pass without supernatural intervention...but I have complete and total faith, peace and trust that He will accomplish it, in His perfect time and in His perfect way.  All praise, glory and honor goes to Him, in advance.

Philippians 4:4-9
"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. The Reason for the Season

Have you ever asked God "why"? For some reason, this year I have become especially curious about how Mary must have reacted when she found out that she'd be giving birth in a barn... with livestock!  Did she ask God, "why"? I don't know what the cultural norm was back then??  Who knows?  Maybe it was typical for a family to bed-down in a stable if the inns were all full?  Maybe women gave birth in stables on a regular basis and it was not a shock to her?  I just don't know.  But I am approaching this post with the idea that it was not in Mary's plan in any way, shape or form to give birth in a barn. Persecution

This post represents my inner-need to spew what my heart's been feeling all day.  Earlier, I received a message on facebook from an old friend.  I hadn't seen or heard from her since high school (which has been *cough cough* ten years ago now); we hadn't even exchanged messages or comments on facebook since becoming facebook friends...until today. The message from this old friend began with no warm greeting or friendly "hello".  She didn't cushion things with small talk or beating around the bush.  Her message just hammered right in and began reaming me with insults about how ignorant and uneducated I am.  She notified me of how sorry she was for my children that they would be educated by a God-lover and someone so ignorant.  Her final requests were that I stop flooding facebook with my religious ramblings about God and to not pray for her since she has an ivy league diploma, full bank account and excessive happiness.  All of this came after a nearly...

Two Days as a Substitute Teacher

My past two days have been spent in the role as a substitute teacher in one of our local high school Spanish classes.  The job popped up at just the right time.  Calvin had just been dealt another week with fewer hours at work and we were beginning to pick and choose which bills we were going to pay and which ones could wait until the next pay-check.  I asked the Lord to provide for us financially and not even two hours later I received a phone call from the secretary at the high school asking if I'd like to sub!  I have never received a subbing phone-call before, ever !  I don't even remember filling out any paperwork to do it!  But that's just God for you.  He's always providing at exactly the right time!
